Application procedure
An application for the European Geologist (EurGeol) title must be submitted through one of the EFG's Licensed Bodies which are authorised to award the title.
These Licensed Bodies are the:
Institute of Geologists of Ireland (IGI)
Geological Society of London (GSL)
Spanish Association of Professional Geologists (ICOG)
Swiss Association of Geologists (CHGEOL)
International Licensed Body (ILB)
The ILB is operated by EFG for applicants who are not members of one of the above mentioned National Licensed Bodies. The applications to the ILB need to be presented by a National Vetting Committee (NVC). You can find the list of NVCs below. This gives two routes towards the award of the EurGeol title:
National Licensed Bodies (NLBs):
If you have successfully completed the professional review process for the national qualification awarded by one of the National Licensed Bodies above, you can benefit from a simplified election process to obtain the European Geologist title. Please contact the relevant department within your National Licensed Body for details. The full application procedure outlined on this site does not apply to you.
International Licensed Body (ILB):
If you are not member of one of the national associations having their own Licensed Bodies you will need to apply through the ILB. Please complete the forms indicated below and submit them to your National Vetting Committee (NVC) which will check your application and carry out an interview as appropriate. Once the NVC is satisfied with the application, the dossier is forwarded to the ILB in Brussels which checks the application and awards the title if found acceptable.

FEES
The application fee amounts to 58€ (30€ administrative charge + 28€ first annual subscription). For geologists applying via the NLBs details will be given upon submission of the application files to the respective LB.
For applicants to the ILB, there are two possiblilites for paying the application fee:
- Invoice via EFG Office: 58€
- Online payment via the PayPal botton below (including PayPal charges): 60,50€
Once these fees have been received by the EFG, the ILB will process the application.
Elections are confirmed as soon as your application has been approved by the ILB and the reception of the fee is acknowledged by the EFG Office after which title certificates are issued and your name appears on the EurGeol register published on this web site.
